Dina Asher-Smith (born 4 December 1995) is a British sprinter who holds the British records for both the 100 metres and 200 metres. In the 4 x 100 metres relay, she won bronze medals at the 2016 Summer Olympics

Dina Asher-Smith suffered a broken foot in her final training session before the Birmingham Indoor Grand Prix and has been forced to pull out of the event. The 21-year-old sprinter, who won Olympic bronze as part of Britain's 4x100m women's relay team at Rio 2016, said she was "gutted" to miss out. 

"What are the odds!" she tweeted. "Last session before the Grand Prix, last reactive jump, and I land awkwardly on my foot and fracture it." She added: "So upset and frustrated but it was a freak accident, one of those unavoidable things in life I guess. Comeback starts now."

Trying to get back to competitive sprinting from a broken foot after having surgery is no easy task at the best of times - let alone with a time frame of about three months. Without using the underwater treadmill it would have been infinitely harder. I was able to start walking and then running sessions underwater about 6 weeks before I was able to do them on hard ground, which obviously made an enormous difference. The work I was able to put in there, from not only a rehab perspective but also in terms of developing my cardiovascular and muscle strength was amazing. I have probably come out stronger than before. I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to enhance a rehab programme or develop their training. 



Having got back into swimming after a decades-long break, I was becoming frustrated with my lack of progress as my fitness levels increased. I was given coaching with Jon as a Christmas present, and he’s transformed my front crawl. He picked apart the bits that needed changing very clearly, and gave me step by step guides to work on the new technique I had to learn. Having the follow-up sessions was invaluable to tweak bits that needed it, and Jon was endlessly patient with my flapping about! 4 months on I’m still having to think very hard about my swimming, but my stroke is transformed and my times demonstrate that. Thank you, Jon, for your patience and expertise. 





We can’t recommend Swimotion enough, our daughter Holli Gushlow had been a member of our local swimming club for approximately 20 months. She competed in her first county championships in February, she swum the 200m breaststroke in 3.13.36 & the 100m breaststroke in 1.31.36 Holli said she needed help with her breaststroke technique. We contacted Jon at the end of February & booked the 1 hour video analysis with technique coaching. Holli really enjoyed swimming in the endless pool & the 1 to 1 coaching with Jon. Being an endless pool meant Jon could really focus on Holli’s technique. We were very impressed with the endless pool & Jon’s coaching, we booked a block of 10 X 30 minute sessions. 

Holli improved massively & went on to compete in the South East Regionals, Holli made the finals in the 200m breaststroke & took off over 14 seconds of her time, finishing 2.58.99 placing her 3rd in the South East 12 year old girls. She also took off over 4 seconds of her 100m breaststroke time finishing 1.27.12 as a result of Holli finishing 3rd place at the Regionals she has now been selected to attend the 2017 South East Region athlete development programme. We are in no doubt that Holli couldn’t have achieved this without the fantastic coaching of Jon & the endless pool at Swimotion.




I was referred to Swimotion by my tri coach in order to improve my (self taught) front crawl technique. After an initial video session and detailed analysis of my stroke I joined three more sessions that were focussed on technical excercises. By mixing up the exercises and making them harder and harder each time the classes were fun and challenging at the same time. As a result of these classes my technique has improved tremendously and I have become a much more comfortable and faster swimmer



I took both my children to have a week of swimming lessons at Swimotion and it was absolutely fantastic.

Jon was a great teacher, he is incredibly good with children and knew just how to get the best from them. He does not patronise at all, he treats them like little people who are on his level which really gets the best out of them. My little boy (age 4) has grown in confidence since having his lessons, and a week after seeing Jon I took him swimming and he jumped straight in the pool, head underwater and then he started swimming unaided! I am 100 per cent sure if I had not been to Jon he would not of had the confidence to do that. I really recommend Swimotion, Jon is such a good teacher and the set up is great, my kids loved it!!

Our family are very keen swimmers so we have wanted to instil a love of water and swimming since they were very little- if you want your children to learn a life long skill and a passion for swimming - Swimotion is the place to go. Thank you Jon!

I found Swimotion worked extremely well in helping me to develop strength and get back into running after having 4 months off. I had suffered from the early stages of a stress fracture in my tibia and found Swimotion was a great way of being able to test running again and how my leg reacted to it. It helped as it was about 50% body weight hitting the ground each step, meaning less pressure was put on my leg. I started off with one session and then did 2 sessions a week. I would recommend more than one session as the first time I spent that getting used to the motion. Each session Jon put the resistance up and after a few I found my legs becoming stronger. Not only did it help my strength but also running technique. 

A few days ago, I went on my first run in 4 months and felt so much stronger. I can’t recommend Jon enough!! Thank you again

In advance of competing at Ironman Wales I wanted to improve both my speed, efficiency and confidence in open water and Jon's clear coaching and endless swimming pool facility made this possible. In the short space of 4 sessions my technique came on rapidly and I consequently hit a 10 minute PB  in the swim on race day in 1.06. I highly recommend Swimotion and will be returning next season!



As an Adult Onset Swimmer, I had managed to teach myself the basics of how not to sink, while making forward motion at a continental drift pace (but with a lot more splashing). My interest in triathlons had grown, and I found myself significantly hampered by the swim leg, coming out close to last and spending the rest of the race desperately trying to make up for lost ground. I was desperately keen to cut down on the deficit to a level that would at least allow me a chance of placing well by the end of the bike and run.

Jon had previously coached my daughter and her confidence in the water had developed rapidly under his tutelage. I reached out to him for a set of private lessons in the endless pool, with the hope of correcting some of my positional deficiencies. Jon's coaching was clear and patient. He tackled my major failings first, correcting one item at a time, and giving me an opportunity between lessons to work at the changes.

The pool that I was coached in was incredible. The ability to swim against the water stream allowed Jon to analyse my position and stroke in close proximity. Video analysis from both above and under the water allowed further positional corrections, and very clearly illustrated to me what I was doing wrong (dropped legs, crossing of the centre line with my stroke, and a variety of other sins that individually can all be corrected with practice).

Jon also offered me training advice after our structured lessons ended, and send me a variety of drills tailored to my training to keep my own pool swims focused and interesting.

At Jon's advice I increased my volume of swimming, and kept my focus on the key items he had highlighted for me. I am never going to set the world alight with my swimming, but I did drop 12 minutes off of my target Ironman swim time (based on my previous half ironman efforts), which I was delighted with.

To anyone who wants to swim faster and more efficient you need to be coached by Swimotion. Fact ! I'm a 50 year old man who has from a small child always considered myself a strong swimmer with no fear of open water.

I'm in my third year of getting fit again and second year of competing in sprint triathlons all my thrashing up and down the pool for three years 3 times a week gave me good cardio but never changed my times; very frustrating when I know I had more in me. I wanted to get better so I joined a club. 3 months on and no improvement in my times I changed clubs another 3 months in and only 4 weeks to Blenheim Palace Triathlon; still no improvement.

I had resided to the fact I will always be an OK swimmer.  I then learnt about Swimotion.  After my first hour with Jon I could see the light and my times started to improve. I was very happy.  Two more 45 minute sessions with Jon and I completed at Blenheim.  It was my bench-mark Tri as I'd done it the year before. 750m swim - 16min 18sec last year; 13min 12sec this year after just 3 lessons.

I’ve just got back from trying out Swimotion’s endless pool and underwater treadmill. The whole experience was quite incredible I have to say and way and above what I had thought it was going to be like.

From the moment you walk into the custom built facility you feel as if you are in a well thought out and well designed place and it just gets better from there. As a former Ironman triathlete with more bashed up body parts than I care to list this has to be the best way to re-educate and re-habilitate the body back to fitness and health.

The Endless pool with its carefully controlled current means you can concentrate on your swim technique without the usual distractions of lane dividers and others around you not to mention the end of the pool coming up soon!

Jon’s excellent guidance with use of Go-Pro and head piece technology means you never stray far from the ideal technique that can keep your body in alignment and iron out all those kinks you’ve accidentally developed over the years.

It is both an excellent workout and an incredible educational session that gets you back on track to whatever goals you’ve set yourself.

The underwater treadmill was equally a revelation for someone who has not been able to run without chronic knee pain for years and I was a little hesitant to even try it. I’ve heard of the Brownlee brothers using such a device to come back to fitness after major injuries so if it’s good enough for them then why not try it out.

The speed of the treadmill can be set to match your ability and where your range of motion will allow but from there you can also throw in the added resistance from the swim current for an extra dimension.

I was fully running in a matter of minutes and even though I didn’t feel weightless in the water there was a level of support.

There was no pain and even later that night when usually symptoms of discomfort and inflammation would surface none appeared. Amazing stuff!

I had my first experience of an underwater treadmill at Swimotion under the guidance of Jon Yates. I wish that I had discovered his facility a few months ago as I am sure that the combination of off loading combined with resistance would have greatly assisted recovery from an Achilles issue.

Running is different, interestingly really encouraging use of the core. Jon’s knowledgeable advice is reassuring. A quick look at my swimming technique revealed various issues to work on! Really nice clean upmarket facility with the personal attention of the owner. A must for all athletes looking to improve swimming technique or rehab with lower limb issues.

Also an alternative to other hydrotherapy setups as it will allow good use of degenerative joints or post surgery for replacement ankles, knees and hips.

Having Multiple Sclerosis means that I have frequent hip pain and weak gait stability. Since using Swimotion's under water treadmill both have greatly improved.
